The standard billing unit for chartering a yacht, sailboat, or catamaran is a week, which in charter jargon means that you take over the yacht on Saturday afternoon and return it on Saturday morning. Check-in (registration) is usually at noon between 4-5 pm, and check-out (check-out) is between 8-9 am. In most cases, the boat must be brought back to the base port one night before the official check-out.
If the boat was not rented in the week before you, you can also arrange for an earlier pick-up. It all depends on the goodwill of the individual charterer. It is also possible to arrange, especially in the pre-season and post-season, for shorter, few-day rentals.
However, everyone avoids renting out yachts for short periods. Especially if the rental period for a yacht, catamaran, or sailboat for a few days steals a two-week income from the charterer. A shorter yacht, sailboat, or catamaran rental period can also be arranged if you decide on a last minute.
An expensive yacht rental does not mean that you are sailing at the best time. The best sailing conditions are in the pre-season and post-season. In this period, the wind fills your sails, while in the summer the weather is mostly calm.
Spring and autumn months are especially popular with real sailors. Experienced sailors also rent more sporty yachts for sailing, while family, wide-bodied yachts reign supreme in the summer months. Non-summer months are also much less crowded, and of course, autumn days bring figs, grapes, and increased friendliness of the locals, who no longer crave earnings.
